Italian 'Alpine' Pike - May 4 and 5, 2026
OverviewWe like to go out on adventures! The challenge of exploring new destinations is simply the best. Especially on DIY trips. This trip I prepared using Google search, Google earth and Navionics. It was a bit of a gamble because, due to circumstances, we only had three fishing days. We drove on Sunday May 3rd to northern Italy and it took us 13 hours to get to our destinaton on the banks of one of the few lakes in the world that holds the Italian 'Alpine' Pike.

At that moment we did not know what to expect. There is very little information available about fly fishing for the Italian 'Alpine' pike. But when we woke up in the morning we geared up and started fly fishing in front of the place we stayed. Within half an hour I had the first take and moments later I landed my first Italian 'Alpine' pike.

The weather was extremely nice and the pike were playing game.

On the second day we also ran into several alpine pike.

Then, at the very end of the second day, came code orange for next days weather and it ended our trip. No fishing on the third day but an early departure home.
The total of 9 Italian 'Alpine' Pikes that Ad and myself caught in just two days was a great result. The species is now checked off the bucket list but I'm pretty sure that we will be back chasing these beauties!
